Black-eyed peas are thought to bring good luck at the beginning of the year. This gets a little confusing because
these “peas” are actually beans. In many cultures, beans, especially dried beans, are lucky because they swell
when cooked, thus signaling an increase or abundance. Black-eyed peas also represent prosperity in the form of
coins.
