Fresh Meals Program

2023, SOS distributed 4,208 freshly prepared, then frozen meals for children in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and for low-income, homebound senior citizens.

About This Program

The SOS Foundation began a fresh meals program in 2016, with expansion after the opening of its Callahan Community Kitchen in Key West in 2018. Meals prepared at the Kitchen utilize 90% fresh fruits and vegetables, prioritize whole wheat and 100% grains, and limit the consumption of high-sodium, high-salt snacks that are the norm for many children and seniors. Research shows that among low-income children, participation in CACFP increases the average consumption of vegetables.

Support This Program

While SOS participates in Federal Nutrition Programs, many of our Fresh Meals Program costs fall outside of the federal reimbursement rates.

Without volunteers SOS would not be able to make and provide meals to all of our sites. We are always in need of helping hands.
